Today i thought id share with you the antics that i got up to at the weekend. Yep it was a crafty weekend but not at home. Lisa and i went off to Aberdeen for some workshops.
We set off at the crack of dawn on friday morning from Inverness to Aberdeen - just a 2 hour drive to get to the Papeterie Papermill for Amy Shaw's workshop. Amy as some of you might know is Dawn Bibbys niece and is now the main resident craft expert for QVC since Dawn move to the other side !
I had never met Amy before friday as we were just friends on facebook. She is such a sweet, lovely person and has a lot of time for you which is very appreciative. We had such an amazing day - 2 workshops in total and learnt some fabby techniques and made some amazing creations.
here are a few pics of the morning and afternoons workshops.
This is Amy using a heat gun to dry one of her projects
These are Amys projects that we would be replicating on the workshops in the am and pm
This is my partner in crime - Lisa busy crafting away.

Some of the materials used during the day
My nice tidy workspace area just after i finished making the Africa alcohol inked card - love this one!
When you are away at workshops you meet lots of lovely people - Lisa and i met up with 2 crafters from Aberdeen - Susan and Wendy - we are now friends and are keeping in touch !
So here are my creations that i made on Friday.
Sorry for the quality of the pics but my camera is playing up and im not sure how to change modes - some IT geek eh !! This card was made on rik rak card stock with mat and layer blocks. The image was stamped onto an amazing background that was created with 2 alcohol inks randomly dabbed about - isnt it effective. it wouldnt be me with out some bling too !
This amazed Amy as both me and Lisa added bling to most of our projects
More Alcohol inks used in stripey fashion. love this one as its a striking contrast between the colours and the black card.
This is my fav. or one of my favs! Alcohol inks as a background then a silhouette africa peel off added ontop, matted and layered onto black card stock then more alcohol inked background used as another matt then onto a black card base. The organza ribbon was coloured with the alcohol inks to match the background and yep more bling !
More African toppers that i have made up to make cards with - using up the othe peel offs from the day.
This one doesnt show up well at all in the photo but what it is is the alcohol inks as a background then fed through an embossing plate for the cuttlebug. The embossed areas were then carefully covered with archival ink which created a stunning effect. Card put through a crimper to get the rik rak effect.
This is a stunning card when you see it and such a clever idea. Using on a set of stamps and different coloured inks you create a garden scene with the different stamps creating dimension. Then add the wee butterflies and bees.
Stamp a background image stamp using 2 colours of ink then used the lady stamp on top of an alcohol created background to give the muted effect
The relief technique. stamped the script as a background then the poppy stamp in versamark and added clear embossing powder then heated. once embossed the poppies were coloued with mica which gives such a stunning effect.
A watercolour technique used here. Damp some distress inks onto your craft sheet and spritz - then stamp your stamp into it then add to your card stock. such a lovely subtle effect. Again matching organza ribbon with alcohol inks
This last ones are off Mona Lisa toppers that were stamped onto alcohol inked backgrounds. The toppers are all ready to go onto cards - when ive got time.
When the afternoon workshop was done we helped Amy tidy up and drove her to her B&B for the night. Lisa and i then headed to our travel lodge where we settled down to a lovely carvery for tea - and a pina colada that i had to almost make myself !! Roast beef, turkey, Gammon, roasties, cauliflower, onions, Yorkshire pud and stuffing ball.
On saturday after our breakfast we were to be heading to Debbi Moores workshop in Aberdeen city centre but she cancelled. This was such a shame as i was really looking forward to meeting her after being on her DT for almost a year.
So instead Lisa and i did some shopping all over town to various craft outlets then headed back to the Papeterie, after lunch at Jimmy Chungs, to catch Amys free demo. Poor Amy she was knackered. bless.
It was at this point that we should have been heading home but we both decided to stay over another night as Debbi was coming to the Papeterie on sunday for a free demo. So we both phoned home and cleared it all then headed back to the travel lodge to see if they could still have us. Fortunately it was all ok. I then realised that as i had only packed for one night it meant no knickers for the next day!! So we headed back into Union Sq shopping center to get some bits and bobs. Had a nice meal at the Giraffe restaurant then back to the TL where we crafted till the wee hours - i was so pooped i just fell into bed but couldnt sleep so my travelling companion had to tell me a story about penguins, pirates and fairies - dont ask !!
After breakie on sunday we made our way back again to the Papeterie where Rachael and Alannah both thought we were taking up residence !!
Debbi and her husband arrived with bags and baggage just before the demo time. I introduced myself to her and both lisa and i helped her put up the demo cards on display. There were only 2 of mine to show but 2's better than nowt! We contacted Susan who we met on friday to see if she was going to pop along - and a short while afterwards, she then arrived and grabbed a seat beside us.
Debbi demo'd a few folds and talked about various cd and the magazines then we left just at lunch time.
Here are the photos - this is me with Debbi
This is lisa with Debbi
and this is Susan with Debbi
Although i was glad we met Debbi it was for me a very disappointing time but never mind ! We left and made our way north. Stopping off at asda for a bit of shopping and some grub then were home just after tea time - knackered and achy after the drive!
So there it is - my crafty weekend away with Lisa. Hope you enjoyed my story. You can check out Amys blog for her story by clicking
