Hello everyone, im excited to be hosting the National Fairy Day blog fly for 24th and 25th June.
If you have arrived here for day one of this hop then you are on the right track to start the hop. If you are here just browsing around (thank you), but would like to “hop” or should i say “fly” along with us then please start right here and move on down the list – the line up can be found at the bottom of this posting.
Thank you to the very talented crafters that are joining me in taking part – so sit back spread your wings and get ready to fly !
I am away for the 2 days of this hop so i do hope that all goes smoothly but please be patient if some posts are not appearing on the line up as with the time differences for some of the participants there could be small delays - but please do keep checking back.
The theme for this hop is National Fairy Day so our projects had to be creations depicting Fairies in any shape, form or style.
While you are going through all the blogs in this hop there are hidden letters for you to collect along the way and after the 2 days unscramble them to form a fairy related word where you need to then return to my blog and complete the mr linky entry - not revealing the word. I will select a winner and then contact you to reveal the fairy word and with the correct answer you will win some fairy candy.
Right then i shall wave my magic wand and we shall begin - yes i do have magic wand - for some that will come as no suprise what so ever !!!
Right then i shall wave my magic wand and we shall begin - yes i do have magic wand - for some that will come as no suprise what so ever !!!
For this hop I have chosen to create my projects on one of Cicely Mary Barker’s Flower Fairys called CandyTuft. Candy tuft is my favourite fairy in fairyland although i do love them all she is the best to me as she is so cute, sweet innocent and reminds me of childhood.
I thought id begin by telling you a little about Candytuft – this is her song as written by Cicely Mary Barker
Why am i “Candytuft”?
That i don’t know!
Maybe the fairies first called me so;
Maybe the children, just for a joke;
Im in the gardens of most little folk.
Look at my clusters!
See how they grow;
Some pink or purple, some white as snow;
Petals uneven, big ones and small;
Not very tufty and no candy at all !!
Here are my day one projects – Firstly A simple card creation.
For this card i have used a cerise pink card base, a white piece of card and stamped out a flower burst flourish image all over and a smaller piece of pink card and stamped the same image.
The first piece of stamped card was then mounted onto a darker pink matt and then onto a cilver mirror board layer before mounting it onto the white card and then onto the cerise main card body.
Once all in place i then took a candy tuft chipboard tag and added an organza ribbon loop and small pink bow and attached to the centre of the matts. I then took a x cut flower punch to punch out all the little pink flowers and double layered them. Adding glitter glue to each petal and a bigger blog in the middle as the flower centre. Gems were then added all around this area, craftwork cards card candy added in 3 corners and a large cerise button in the fourth. I printed off a digital stamp sweet candy sentiment and coloured with copic cerise colour and glittered then mounted it with 3d foam onto the card. The finishing touch was a glittered butterfly.
My second project is a cushion for my bed.
This was made with 2 different candytuft pieces of fabric all cut and sewn together. A gap was left at one end to insert the cushion and then sewn up.
My third project is a decoupaged image photo frame.
For this project i printed off a sheet of candytuft decoupage. Cut out the layers and layered them up with pinflair glue. Glitter added to the flower heads.
I then took a back 2 basics bare photo frame and painted it with gold/brown acrylic paints. I used some chipboard flourishes and painted them green.
When all was dry i mounted the flourishes onto the frame with pinflair glue.
When all of this was dry i then used wild orchid pink flowers and leaves to accent the frame. Cutting and twirling some of the flower stalks to create curly embellishments in among the flowers.
Now my 4th project for today.

The ribbons and buttons are from my stash. The little boxes can be used for sweets or tealight candles or other small gifts to pass onto its recipient.
Now onto my 5th project for today - it is a set of jewellery that i have made.

I stamped out the image onto shrink plastic,coloured her in copic markers and punched a small hole at the top. I then heated the plastic with my heat gun to shrink it.
Once shrunk and i was happy with it (as it took 4 attempts) i then created a beaded necklace and hung the shrink plastic charm onto a bale onto the necklace. I then made matching earrings from the leaf beads. Easy peasy and only took under an hour to make.
I have the candle placed in my fireplace area alongside my candytuft ornament. I made the candle by stamping the image onto tissue paper then colouring it with copics. I then carefully cut out the image leaving a small edge. Placed this onto the candle and heated it on a low heat with my heat gun to melt the tissue paper.
Once dry i then added glitter to her wings.
For decoration i have added a ribbon, some flowers and leaves and a pearlised hat pin.
My 7th last project is an anklet that i made the other day. I had a previous silver anklet with a fairy on it but it broke - it was such a lovely thing but never mind. So i wanted to replace it so i got some Believe charms and some sparkle beads and added them onto the anklet instead. It is now wearable again and its tinkles and glitters when i move !
Ok thats it for today - wow 7 fairy projects – roll on tomorrow for even more ! hope you like them and id appreciate it if you could leave me a comment.

Oh Gill - i wish i could see these all in person! I have been waiting for this hop since i saw it on your side bar. i LOVE fairies and Cicely Mary Barker's are my favorites! My daughter has a whole collection of them - she gets one every year for Christmas since she was a baby. We have the big book of fairies by CMB and i have a couple of the stamps. i am definitely going to check out the CD over at Crafter's Companion. I think my favorite is the Pinks Fairy - probably because i love pinks! All of your projects are just overwhelming - I can't believe you did all of these for 1 day of the hop. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings! i hope you are having fun where ever you are :) Hugs
