HOME DECOR BLOG HOP 22-24 APRIL 2011

Hello everyone,  im excited to be part of  The Home Decor  3 day BLOG HOP 22nd – 24th April - im getting more and more into hops -  There will be no stopping me now !

Thank you to Faith
http://faithfulecreations.wordpress.com/   for letting me be a part of this hop where i am among some very talented crafty ladies and i am honoured to be included.
If you have arrived here from Jen R's blog  then you are on the right track. If you are here just browsing around (thank you), but would like to “hop”  along with us then please start at the beginning with Faith - link as above.

The theme for this hop is Home Decor so our projects had to be creations for such.

Here is my day one project - decopatch photo frame.

I have used a back 2 basics photo  frame,  2 sheets of decopatch patterened paper, decopatch glue, brush, peel offs, photo, card stock and some cat embellishments.  This is how i created and assembled it –
I ripped the decopatch paper into small sections and applied the glue with a brush to the frame and then placing the paper randomly on the frame and covering again with the glue to secure it in place.  It doesn’t matter if the paper overlaps as that creates a nice effect and ensures no white edges of paper are seen and no spaces visible of the frame too !  If you use a pattern paper like what i have it is interesting to see the results when its placed on the object as it gives a totally different patterned effect to what it started out with. You can use decopatch papers on almost any item in the house – even your TV and  the designers have even done a full car !! all you need if its an item for outside or the dishwasher is to use the glaze on top of it  - this makes it waterproof.
Once  i  covered the whole frame in the papers i left it to dry. Then used the pinflair flexi bend peel offs and edged the frame for accent. I then printed off a photo of one of my cats – Gypsy – this was then matted and layered on to co-ordinating card stock and attached to the inside of the frame. I then added some cat type embellishments.
There you have it a completed decopatched frame that i now have in my living room – just got to do a matching one now of Lucky otherwise he will get jealous!!

Here is my next  project – a painted glass candle hurricane.

I found a candle hurriance glass jar in one of those cheap pound stores and cleaned it up. I drew out an image of a stargazer lily – my favourite flower – and worked out where i was going to place it on the glass. It turned out i needed 3 flower heads to fill one side of the glass. I cut around my handdrawn images and then carefully sellotaped them to the inside of the hurricane.
I then used a lead liner and traced around the images onto the glass. I then removed the paper from inside and turned the glass round 180 degrees and attached to the inside of the other side of the hurricane – so the image could be painted again on this  other side.
What i wanted was the images going all around the glass so it could be turned or placed anywhere in my room and you could still see enough of the flower when a candle was lit inside. This then sat overnight to dry.

The next day i got out my rainbow glass paints and coloured in the image to match the colouring of the lily flower. I could only do one single flower at a time as it  took about 4 hours to dry properly and had to be balanced flat so the paint didn’t bubble or run into the other elements. Once all the flowe heads were finished and dry  i then i used a gold lead liner and added the stamens.
So there you have it my pound store hurricane glass that has now been turned into a pretty painted hurricane to adorn any space – it is also such a good cheap way of making candle accessories for any room in your house or for presents – guess what my family will be getting now !!!

I  hope you like what i have created and id appreciate it if you could leave me a comment.

These are lovely. However, I prefer the candle holder. How tall is it? It would be marvelous on the deck in the evening.
